"It Takes a Village" This timeless proverb is more than just a saying for us, it's the foundation of our work.
Takes A Village Foundation was established to solve a systemic crisis: the unacceptable racial disparity in mental health access, experience, and outcomes.
For too long, Black and BAME communities have been more likely to face detention and restraint than support and recovery.
Our foundation was built to change this narrative. We have rooted our work in the EMHIP (Ethnicity and Mental Health Improvement Project)—specifically Key Intervention 3 (KI3), which focuses on reducing coercion and improving inpatient experiences.
Advancing the PCREF Standard
Today, we are at the forefront of the NHS Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF). We recognize that for NHS Trust to be holistic in its service and culturally balance, it must partner with the community. We act as that vital partner, providing the "bottom-up" expertise that turns high-level policy into real-world healing.
The Village Promise:
We ensure that the everyone is treated as they should with dignity and respect. Through our management of Mental Health Mediators and our partnership with leaders like WCEN and the South West London and St George's (SWLSTG) NHS Trust, we are building a "Village" that surrounds the patient with dignity.
We don't just work in the system; we help the system work for you. Whether through our Hubs, Pop -up Hubs, Out-of-Hours Wellbeing Hubs or our work on the wards, we are committed to the PCREF goal: a mental health service that is equitable, transparent, and built on trust.

Welcome! We are here to support the mental health and growth of our BAME community!
